Welp, yesterday was insane.
I started off the morning doing camera prep because I knew that the infamous Furnace Party was worthy of documentation. Always do your production prep the night before, folks. I wanted to, but my friend Adam McGovern was crashing at my place for Camden Comic Con and I had lots of hostly duties to attend to.
I wound up skipping breakfast and once I had all my stuff together, Jilly drove the pair of us off to the empty lot at 27th and Girard.
We attended. (Definitely read that article first if you don’t have any idea what I’m talking about)
There were a lot of great folks there. There was singing, there was dancing, and Jilly and I spent about an hour and a half interviewing all the weird people who went. Look for that video coming soon!
Unfortunately we had to cut it short, because Jilly and I both had places to be. She dropped me off at the train and I was off to Camden. I wanted to do some more video there but I just didn’t have the energy after being consumed by the molten steel. There, I met with the showrunners, artists, vendors, old friends I haven’t seen in years… y’know. Con stuff.
Camden Comic Con is my favorite show on the east coast, period. For the fifth year in a row, showrunners Miranda Powell and Bill Haas deliver the most authentic convention with love and passion that’s increasingly scarce in the industry. If you want my opinions on the current state of the comics convention industry, come take a look at my highest viewed post ever.
Having missed the first 5 hours of the show, there was a lot I wanted to do that I didn’t get to. But the day was not wasted: I got some great footage and some great stories, and I’ll be sharing them all with you lovely people.
