Disabilities: The Shocking Truth

Disabled Patron has been coming around for like a month now, and we chit-chat from time to time. They are missing an arm just below the shoulder, a finger on the remaining hand, and a leg below the knee.

Disabled Patron: You know, in my time in Philadelphia I don’t think I’ve met a single person I couldn’t learn something from.

Me: Is that so?

Disabled Patron: The other day, I was speaking with this person for a bit- we were racing with our chairs, y’see- and they were telling me what happened to them. Nearly killed in a car accident at age 19, scarred for life. I was middle-aged when I was disabled, and that was bad enough, but 19?

Me: What happened to you?

Disabled Patron: Electrocution. 69,000 volts. Cost me an arm and a leg, too!

Me: ayyyyyyyyyy

Disabled Patron: AYYYYYYYY

Disabled Patron: I’m kidding

Disabled Patron: I’m Canadian, it didn’t cost me anything.
