Back in October, I published a story called Iron. I could have sworn that I had done another one on the subject of my low iron levels, but I can’t seem to find it. Here’s a followup to that tale:
Doctor: What brings you in today, Mr. Kart… Mr. Cate… James?
Me: Well, Doctor, I tried to give blood to the Red Cross twice, separated by a few months, and both times my iron came back low. 11.6 and 12.1 respectively.
Doctor: Well that isn’t good.
Me: It is not.
Doctor: Are you eating enough meat?
Me: Before I got this news, I thought I was eating too much.
Doctor: Any other symptoms? Weight gain, weight loss, 16 other symptoms that Matt definitely forgot in between hearing them and writing them down?
Me: Nope.
Doctor: I’m going to call your gastroenterologist and see what they think, but my first thought is some kind of anemia.
Me: Why my gastroenterologist?
Doctor: Well, given your long history of G.I. issues, I think it’s a solid bet there’s some kind of connection here.
THREE DAYS LATER
Doctor, on the phone: Hi, Mr. Kih- Keeh… James. I spoke with your gastroenterologist and they had the same thought I did.
Me: Which is?
Doctor: Let’s get you scheduled for a colonoscopy right away.
Me:
Please keep us posted!
Oh, I will 🙂
🙂 Thank you.
