Patron passes me a book called “Give People Money”.
Patron: That’s a great title, isn’t it? It’s about Universal Basic Income*. It’s so radical!
Me: It’s really not that radical. We need to stop pretending that helping people who need it is some kind of extremist belief system. We’re standing in a library, which is trying to do something very similar as part of its core structure.
Patron: You know, you’re right.
Me: I do know that actually
Patron: Some countries have done Universal Basic Income.
Me: Some Scandinavian country, I think. But they discontinued it.
Patron: Sweden maybe? Anyway, out there they have universal healthcare
Me: EVERYONE HAS THAT
Me: LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE ONE
Me: WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT REFUSE TO HELP OUR OWN CITIZENS
Patron: I’m sorry, did you have an opinion on the subject?
Me: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
*Universal Basic Income is the idea that every citizen of a given country should receive a set amount of money monthly regardless of income.
