Going Around

This is what I talk about at parties

Me: So, Jilly and I are really upset about all the abortion laws gaining traction.

Friend: Ugh, I know. My girlfriend won’t even talk to me about it she’s so livid.

Me: Seems like an important thing to talk about.

Friend: I mean… she had a really hard time coming to really trust me, and sometimes I think she still doesn’t. It’s not her fault. She grew up watching her dad choke her mom, so, like… I get it.

Me: Jesus Christ. All this fear and distrust is really going around, huh?

Other Friend: In a weird, fucked-up way, I almost think it’s good that all of this dark shit is coming to light. Cuz it was always there, but a lot of people could ignore it and have it not affect them. Now that everyone’s pissed all the time, maybe we can have change that is more than skin deep.

Me: I would love for that to be right but I’m not sure I buy it.
