Patron walks up closer to me and reads the tiny text on a screen across from me.
Patron: …close to 30 percent of people who visit the library come to look for jobs.
Patron: …I suppose that could be…
Me: What can I do for you today?
Patron: I want to check this out.
Me: Cool. You have your library card?
Patron: It is possible… that I might have it… let me see…
Me: Jesus Christ.
Patron spends about two minutes looking for their card before finally handing it to me. I scan it and hand them the book.
Me: Have a good evening!
Patron: …
Patron: …
Patron: I guess I’ll just have to help myself then!
Patron grabs their stuff and leaves.
Me: This was fun, we should do it again some time.
