Interlibrary Loan

Me: so do you guys borrow more items from libraries or loan items to libraries?

Supervisor of Interlibrary Loans (ILL): we are a net borrower, so we borrow more than we distribute.

Me: interesting. I would have thought the opposite would be true, because we’re so big

ILL: well, we borrow from lots of places that aren’t publicly accessible. The CIA has a library, FBI has a library, John Deere has a library…

Me: John Deere? Seriously?

ILL: the President has a library too.

Me: the President. Not like, the Harry S. Truman library, but the current sitting president.

ILL: yeah. There’s a library in the White House. Patron called in last week asking for a book on Donald Trump, and guess who had it.

Me: fuck outta here

ILL: I’m serious! Now I don’t think he’s read it…

Me: if he’s ever read a book it’s been decades.

ILL: I imagine it’s just stacks of boxes of unsold copies of “Art of the Deal”.
