Every week, a group of friends and I are rewatching a Marvel movie in preparation for the Avengers: Endgame. Might as well talk about them on the way, right? My schedule on this is screwy cuz of the holidays but we’re just about back on track!
Review: Iron Man 2
Robert Downey, Jr. reprises his hyper-charismatic role of Tony Stark in this first sequel to Iron Man. And he really is Tony Stark.
Unfortunately, the rest of the movie isn’t so praiseworthy. It is with great shame that I am forced to admit that back in 2010, I loved this movie. I loved it so much I actually bought it on DVD. From the sloppy introduction of Don Cheadle as James Rhodey (where he and Tony have a really awkward moment in the congressional hearing) to Mickey Rourke as a… I wanna say Russian? Supervillain, Iron Man 2 only really succeeds in one of its goals: Introducing the agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to set up the Avengers. Which, yeah, it technically does.
It really is a shame- Introducing War Machine and S.H.I.E.L.D. should have been super cool. Instead, we all (except 20 year old me, apparently) saw Iron Man 2 for what it really is: Filler while we wait for Thor, Captain America, and the Avengers. The rest of the film is so forgettable that it’s not really worth the time for me to write about it, or for you to read about it. It sucks. Next week is Thor, though, which should be at least a little fun!
