Leni Reifenstahl

Patron: …and I’ve got some late fines, too.

Me: Sure thing. You have… Good Lord, have you no decency?! HOW DARE YOU OWE $.25 FOR… The Wonderful and Horrible Life of Leni Reifenstahl. huh.

Me: You know, she’s been popping up a lot lately.

Patron: Is that so?

Me: Yeah. Triumph of the Will has been circulating like crazy. On the surface that’s a bit unsettling, but it’s kind of interesting. She was a great filmmaker.

Patron: Remarkable woman. You know, she invented-

Me: The crane shot, yeah.

Patron: And she’d stick a photographer- or sometimes just the camera up in a balloon. Did you know she got her SCUBA license and took up underwater photography at the age of 73? I think she had to lie about her age to do that.

Me: I did not know that.

Patron: She lived a long life, too. 105, I think.

Me: 2003 is when she died, not long after her final interview where she talked about her work in Nazi Germany. Did you know Hitler only hired her because he wanted to hit on her?

Patron: History is really weird.
