Me: Hello there! What can I do for you?
Patron: Nostalgia. I used to come here after school when I was a teenager.
Me: We still have a ton of teenagers coming here after school every day! Just opened a whole new wing on April 12th.
Patron: That’s wonderful. And you still have books!
Me: Sure do. About 7 million items in our collection.
Patron: I lived down in DC for a while, and I noticed that all the cool, obscure books were going away. If they don’t get checked out after a certain amount of time, they take them out of the collection.
Me: Actually, we do that too. We couldn’t maintain the collection without it. What we do do though is send all those rarely-used items to a warehouse in Grey’s Ferry.
Patron: So they’re still in the catalogue?
Me: Yup! And if you find it in the catalogue you can request to have it sent to any library branch.
Patron: Wow, what a great service.
Me: Yeah, I’m pretty wonderful.
