Not What I Meant

Patron: I love this library! It’s so much bigger than my neighborhood library. Are there any, like, nooks to hide in?

Me: Well, if you go upstairs, there are tables and stuff, and we’ve got a couple of reading chairs down here, but most of the nook-y areas are for the staff.

Patron: BOO

Me: But, fun fact, there are a bunch of tiny balconies that would’ve made great reading nooks back in the day.

Patron: Tiny balconies?

Me: Yeah, on either side of the building there are, like, 9 itty bitty, one-person sized balconies. The building was designed in the early 1920s, when smoking was still common.

Patron: That’s interesting!

Me, making 👌 with hands: So you’d step outside, with a cigarette, and

Patron: HAH. I see what you did there

Me: wha

Patron: You did 👌 instead of ✌️. I know what you’re driving at

Me: But wait, I don’t

Patron: It’s a sign of the times!

Me: no
