Safety

Parent: Look. “Make sure your children know and obey the Library’s rules”.

Parent hands child a pamphlet.

Child, reading: Hmmmm

Child: I don’t like the library rules.

Me: Is that so? Why not?

Child: It’s too… safe.

Me: Too safe. Too safe. You want the library to be dangerous.

Child: Yeah!

Me: What kind of danger should you encounter at the library?

Child: Uhhhhhhh

Child: I don’t know. Just… not this safe.

Me: Do you want to get eaten by a lion?

Child: That sounds exciting.

Parent: Tell you what, kid: I’ll throw a book at your face later. Would that make you feel better?

Child: …

Child: Yes.
