Scorpia

Me: One of you!

Me: I WAS TALKING TO ONE OF YOU ABOUT SHE-RA

Me: SPEAK, MORTALS

Coworker: It… was me? I think?

Me: GOOD ENOUGH

Coworker: So, you’re watching She-Ra?

Me: You’re goddamn right I am

Other Coworker: Ooooh I love She-Ra

Me: Excellent, I order you to join the party

Other Coworker: I don’t think you can do that. But I also wanna come, so

Me: Scorpia is a fascinating caricature of a Midwesterner.

Coworkers: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh

Me: In the first episode we see her, she’s like “I’m a hugger!” and grabs people left and right, then several episodes later she harshly criticizes someone for touching her scorpion tail without asking. It’s a small detail- hell, the writers might not have even intended it. But it’s there!

Other Coworker: I don’t… how is that a Midwesterner thing? Because she’s a hugger?

Me: I mean, that’s part-

Other Coworker: That’s not a regional thing. That’s a consent thing. Scorpia is enforcing a clear boundary about where and how she wants to be touched, and she’s making others respect her autonomy.

Me: That’s… my point. When we first meet Scorpia, she grabs Catra. Catra physically resists.

Catra, the main antagonist of She-Ra, pushing back against Scorpia, who DID NOT ASK BEFORE HUGGING
Season 1, Episode 5.

Me: Later that episode, she does it again, and it’s played for laughs.

Another similar image, but in a different location.
FRIENDSHIP

Me: Later that season, Entrapta does the thing where she grabs the tail and Scorpia ain’t havin none of that shit.

Entrapta who has like, magic prehensile hair, grabs at Scorpia's stinger.
Season 1, Episode 10.

Me: Which is an exaggeration of a Midwesterner*. Scorpia cares very much about her own autonomy. But she doesn’t care about yours.

Other Coworker: Oh. That’s… extremely uncomfortable.

Me: I mean, she’s one of the bad guys. It makes sense.

Coworker: Matt are you doing okay? That’s a very dark line of thought.

Me: WELCOME TO MY BRAIN

*YEAH THAT’S RIGHT I’M CALLIN YOU OUT, MINNESOTA. FIGHT ME
