So here I am, 2 months in to the new job: The new boss loves me, the coworkers love me, the kids love me, and I wager I’m going to stay in this position for at least a few years. Hell, I stayed at the last job for 4 years, so this should be a cinch.
That does leave me in a bit of an awkward spot, though: what do I do with Matt’s Tall Tales next? Half of my content is library-related, and there are a few problems with that:
- I’m doing a lot more behind-the-scenes stuff, and I don’t have as much time for writing down funny tidbits of my day
- I don’t really think it’s appropriate for me to be writing jokes about my coworkers if I’m in charge of them- I even got a few comments and notes from friends saying that they’ll miss the blog when I said the word “supervisor”. Even if my jokes are good-natured ribbing, it can come across as inappropriate.
So what do I do? The answer is simple, even though I don’t like it: Matt’s Tall Tales will no longer be a daily publication (can I call it a publication? Fuck it, I’m gonna).
See, in my last position, it was easy for me to whip out my phone and take some quick notes on a story I’d like to write down later. I don’t really have that spare time or mental space in the new job. There’s SO MUCH PAPERWORK YOU GUYS.
SO MUCH.
Astute readers have probably already noticed that in early June I switched from posting twice a day to once a day, and that was a pretty difficult decision to make. I’ve prided myself on maintaining the writing schedule that I have, and I wish I could continue to do it.
But this is not the end! If I’m writing fewer stories, then the stories I am writing are going to be a little more fleshed-out. I’m not quitting, I’ve just gotta shift gears a little bit.
YouTube has been way more successful for me than I would have assumed- I’m getting more views there than I’m getting here, and so the next step for me is MORE VIDEOS!
…which is good because I really haven’t been making good use of the Adobe Suite I paid so much fuckin money for.
So, to recap this… probably-not-entirely-sensible blog post since I’m writing it while very very sleepy:
- Matt’s Tall Tales was twice a day
- For a couple months it’s been once a day
- Now it’s gonna be… I haven’t nailed down a schedule yet, but probably 3-4 times a week
- And there’s gonna be more video content!
