Advertisements

Me: Advertisers have a problem.

Me: Commercials hit their target audiences and their not-target-audiences equally.

Me: Advertisers came up with a solution: Targeted ads.

Me: So websites track your activity or whatever and predict with great accuracy what kind of ads would work on you.

Me: Now society has a problem. There’s no privacy anymore.

Me: The advertisers are clear abusers here, no doubt about it. They’re manipulating us to get us to buy shit.

Me: But just because they are clearly the problem, doesn’t mean we are not. We love Alexa and Siri and Google Assistant, and we love it when the product we need appears. Though in surveys most Americans say they don’t trust targeted ads, it sure feels like we’re just letting it happen and handing them our money.
